Training is used in order to improve staff efficiency, and keep hospitals running smoothly, while new Patients bring in a whole collection of Illnesses that need to be treated.
Training not only allows improves diagnosis and treatment skills, but allows for new activities for all types of staff.
Ranks[]
Ability[]
Each Staff has a measure of Ability, representing how skilled they are at their profession. This Ability is represented by a number of stars next to their name. Ability can range from 1 to 5 Stars, 5 being the best.
Experience[]
As your Staff perform tasks, they accrue experience. This can be seen as a dark circle around their next Ability star. Hovering over a Staff's Ability stars will show how many experience points they have.
As your Staff work, they accrue experience. Experience is required to earn a Promotion. As an employee gains more promotions, they require more experience to reach the next Rank. You can see how much experience a Staff has in their current Rank by inspecting them, then hovering over the blue Ability star underneath their title.
Experience Costs
Rank 1: All Staff start with at least Rank 1
Rank 2: 100 experience
Rank 3: 200 experience
Rank 4: 300 experience

Staff Training[]
After your Staff has gained lots of experience on their job, they'll be ready for Promotion. Additional training is required to give them new qualifications and raise their abilities.
Training Staff requires the Training room, the number of trainees you can educate at once is determined by the amount of Trainee Desks placed inside.
- To start a training course, click on the lectern, or drop a suitable member of staff into the room. Staff will also request training when they're ready.
- In the training screen, select the qualification you want staff to learn, assign a trainer, and select the staff you wish to send on this course. When you're ready, click the start button.
- Once Staff starts their training they will put their work tasks on halt, if all Janitors are busy learning new skills your hospital may start to drown in litter.
Training Staff is optional and can be delayed.
Trainers[]
- If you have a Staff with a particular qualification, they can train other Staff in it. They can even train staff in a different profession. A Nurse with the Diagnostics qualification can train Nurses and Doctors.
- If none of your Staff have a particular qualification (Mitton University administrators, take heed!), you can hire a Guest Trainer to visit your hospital and provide training.
- Not all Qualifications are immediately available. Some need to be unlocked or researched.
Cost[]
- If you hire a Guest Trainer, the cost is $10,000 plus an additional fee per Trainee ($5,000-$25,000 depending on the qualification being trained).
- If your Trainer is on-staff, the fee is waived. Frugal!
Training Duration[]
Training Units (TU)
Required Training Units (TU) is a measure of how much 'work' is required to learn a qualification. This is the first base figure that is used to calculate the final training duration time.
1 (TU) is approximately 1 second of training for a trainer or trainee with a base level skill, (100%), in teaching or learning speed, respectively. So a training course with 240 'Required (TU)', would take 240 seconds or 4 minutes to complete.
Training Modifiers
These are all aspects that can affect the training course duration time for better or for worse. The first of these is the trainer themselves. Every trainer will have a Training Speed, this could be at base level (100%), but could be much greater at (140%), for example. Meaning the training course duration would be reduced.
The next is the trainee. Most have the base training speed (100%). However, some have a faster learning speed, which would reduce the course duration even further. Some trainees are much slower at learning and this would increase the course duration. The more trainees added to the course, the more modifiers are added to the final duration calculation.
The last modifier is the room itself. When building a Training Room you can add items that give a Training Speed Boost, the more of these present in the room, the less time the course will take.
You will see the Estimated Duration, (displayed as in game days), in the Staff Training screen once all aspects of the course have been chosen. Just before you click on 'Start Training'.
- Different traits and qualifications affect the speed of the learning process.
- Teacher Masterclass qualification gives +50% Learning Speed and +50% Teaching Speed.
- The Fast Learner trait gives +50% Learning Speed bonus.
- The Teacher trait gives +50% Teaching Speed bonus.
- The Stupid trait gives a -25% Learning Speed penalty.
Promotion[]
When your Staff has earned sufficient experience, the circle becomes white, indicating they are ready for the next Ability level. They will send you a letter asking to be promoted. You can choose to Promote or Not Now. Delaying promotion causes the Staff to decrease in Happiness. Promotion offers a series of benefits:
After every promotion, Staff will have an open training slot, designated by a dark circle next to their previous qualification. In order to be promoted again, they must receive training at the Training Room to fill that slot.
All promotions require a small increase in pay. You can increase pay even more at this time to increase Pay Satisfaction.
In addition to your Staff gaining stat improvements you can offer a pay rise to improve their happiness.
After your Staff have gained enough experience on their job, they'll be ready for promotion. In order to promote Staff Training is required, this will also give them new qualifications.
Each time a member of your Staff is granted a promotion they gain a new Training Slot, so they can learn a new skill, (unless they have maxed to 5 skills) and a boost to their skills. These skills vary dependant on the staff type. You can view these improvements by visiting the relevant staff pages.
